Porch Journal: A Few of My Favorite Things
A gathering of spring stories, gifts, and small delights for you
Happy Friday, my dear reader!
It’s porch sittin’ time.
Welcome to the ‘Porch Journal’, a short-letter series where I share small reflections and behind-the-scenes thoughts on living a smaller, simpler, more beautiful life. These are quick, easy reads, about a minute or two - just enough for a mid-morning coffee break.
This is my final letter post for the spring season - how can it be?
As spring draws to a close here in the high country, I thought it would be fun to gather a few favorite things from around the porch before we turn the page to summer.
Some are recent stories, some are from The Gift Library, and a few are simply things that brought me joy this season.
The Tiny Bookcase Tour
One of the unexpected joys of spring for me has been sharing little peeks into my tiny bookcase - a surprisingly revealing glimpse into the books, stories, and curiosities that make a home feel personal. Continuing through summer with this one in the Substack Notes app, if you’d like to join me there.
Spring Garden Fairies
A small reminder that not everything worth discovering needs to be practical or important. Sometimes a garden fairy and a moment of magic are enough.
This weekly Notes series on the Substack app has been a real favorite of many, and I’m planning to continue with Cicely Mary Barker’s Summer Fairies for a touch of sweetness.
Welcome to The Porch
Exploring the art of living well through home, garden, and seasonal design. If you're new here - or simply haven't had a chance to read it yet - this is the best place to begin.
Recipe: French Sorrel & Leek Soup
From The Gift Library:
Inspired by an unusual herb growing in my kitchen garden, this simple spring soup has become a favorite spring ritual. The little-known herb that makes the loveliest and most satisfying spring soup - French Sorrel.
A Meadow Landscape: From Bare Lot to Layered Garden
The story behind the design of a local property in 2022: creating a landscape that feels rooted, a peek inside the process, and the before & after transformation.
A Meadow Landscape: Curated Botanical Guide
From The Gift Library:
I spent the past several weeks creating a companion guide to A Meadow Landscape - a curated collection of plants, design ideas, and inspiration drawn from the project. It's a beautiful 47-page design resource, for thoughtful garden inspiration.
Thank you for spending part of your spring here on the porch with me.
Whether you've been reading from the beginning or have only recently pulled up a chair, I'm grateful you're here. Truly.
I'll see you next week, every Friday, as we begin a new season together.
With contentment & possibility,
P.S. If we were sharing a proper porch sit together this evening, I'd probably ask: How was your spring? What are you planting, planning, making, reading, or dreaming about this summer? What’s your favorite porch sittin’ beverage? Do you switch from red wine to white for the season? Let me know what’s on your mind…
