Hi Bex! Love your name. If I had the nerve, I’d share a photo of me when I was a little girl wearing my dress, and apron, and cap, and tie, and clogs…. haha. Also, I’ve got one of my daughter somewhere - in the very same outfit. Such special memories!
So I went out and searched, but can’t find the traditional folkdräckt for Folkja. That was my great grandmother’s middle name—so probably her mother’s maiden name. Seems the closest connection for my side of the family, and a pretty random name if it isn’t a clue! I would love to see what they look like. Do you have any tips on how to find it?
Miriam, I appreciated learning more about how you traditionally celebrated "Midsommar" To some extent, I imagine the warm weather after cold winters is greatly appreciated in Sweden just like it is here in Chicago.
Love all your suggestions, not just for the arrival of Summer but also throughout every season. We had a couple of beautiful days heading into the Summer Solstice but unfortunately day 1 of Summer is a washout with temps dropping to the low 60's by dinnertime. Well, tomorrow's another day!
Oh, that’s absolutely why we’re so breathless when the sun comes out for long days in Sweden! It’s not so much the cold winters, it's the very dim light that far north over winter. The light is big deal 💖
We had the most perfectly perfect temps and day yesterday - May the rest of your summer be full of light, warmth, and celebration!
Miriam, it’s so nice connecting with you. I’m going to go look up Swedish regional folk dress!
