I’ve been walking the historic neighborhoods of Prescott most evenings for years and years - with my loyal yellow lab, Ibis, keeping pace at my side - and along the way, I’ve been gathering what I think of as little “porch notes.”
Not actual notes. Just mental snapshots.
The curve of a corner room lined with original wood windows (is the glass curved too?)
A garden gate with a filtered view of an old stone kitchen structure (is there a wood burning oven in there?)
The hand-cut arch of a wooden entry frame for a huge covered porch (how did they curve that wood?)
Whether it’s a grand old Victorian standing tall on a corner lot, or a modest miner’s cottage with peeling paint and a story to tell, these homes carry a certain kind of soul.
Most are beautifully crafted, smaller cottages. Most are well loved and meticulously cared for. Some are neglected, but not forgotten.
I find myself completely drawn in by the stories and character tucked into every porch, pathway, window box, and solid wood front door.
So I thought I’d start sharing all this style and charm with you.
Because there are beautiful things worth sharing.
Beginning this week, I’ll be posting a series of Substack Notes - short and visual, just one image at a time. Small glimpses and good vibes paired with a detail worth noticing.
These Notes are meant to be a moment of pause. A little visual breath.
They’re not about perfection or polished design - but about noticing.
Noticing the details. The soul. The lived-in magic of home.
I hope they bring a small spark of joy to your day.
And if you're a fellow noticer — I’d love to hear:
✨ What details make a house feel like home to you?
With contentment & possibility,
P.S. Just a heads-up:
Substack Notes don’t go out via email. To catch these fun little updates - including the Porches & Cottages of Prescott series - just keep an eye on your Home feed on the Substack website or phone app.
I will look forward to seeing these postings. Thx you Miriam.
