Miriam, thank you for this lovely post. I have such good memories of fika -- your story about how your family would always have a thermos of coffee and some bullar in the car for trips especially resonated. I still remember the trip we took from Trondheim to my grandmother's village in northern Sweden -- stopping by the side of the roadc for our cheese and butter sandwiches and a thermos of of strong coffee. Of course, there were many other occasions with aunts, cousins, friends where Fika would include something like cake and coffee...it's a tradition I've tried hard to bring to my life here in the US, but it never seems quite the same.
Hej, Kaarin! Those memories and the easy joy of it are worth making a priority now. For me it seems to often turn into happy hour on the front porch as the sun sets with friends and a glass of wine. But... there's something special about that midday break and treat that I try to keep alive. It's not exactly the same here in the US, though... I agree.

That’s fascination Miriam. I’m up for a Fika anytime. You bring the coffee and I’ll bring cake.
I’d love that! Where would you like to have our Fika?
Ooh. That sounds amazing. No idea where that is but I’ll look it up.
Well maybe we could start a new ritual and do a FIKA at Juniper Hill Cottage Gardens? In the warm afternoon sun? LMK
Yes. Let’s make a plan!!
Such a beautiful invitation, Miriam! I'd love to know how to make that almond-strawberry cake to enjoy with my coffee ritual. Three cheers for Fika!
